New Year’s Eve & Hogmanay at Isla Bank House
Join us at Isla Bank House for a romantic break over the New Year. A full itinerary and prices will be published here by October. Hogmanay is derived from the Viking mid-winter festival and due to the banning of Christmas in Scotland up until the 1950’s, it became the principle winter festival North of the border consisting of several days of serious partying, colloquially known as ‘Daft Days’.
Burning the Clavie
The village of Burghead is a small fishing village on the Moray Firth just a short drive from Isla Bank House, here they still observe an ancient custom of carrying a split barrel filled with burning tar through the village at the head of a procession before lighting a bonfire on an ancient alter. When the fire finally burns down the local will scramble to collect a piece of charred wood to carry luck home to their own hearth for the next year.
The romantic high-point in the calendar, Valentine’s Day is extra special in 2020 because it’s a leap year, when tradition suggest that the woman should propose. Gifts are always a nice surprise, but isn’t Mother’s Day about spending quality time with one of the most important people in your life. This year why not throw a tea party at Isla Bank House in Mum’s honor. We’ll provide the tea, the picnic and the venue, all you need to bring is Mum!
The Taste of Nairn Festival
A three-day festival which will see ‘noodles’ of food and drink related events taking place in Nairn.
From a huge picnic in the park, gin and jazz, food related films, a beer and banter comedy night and an artisan market, visitors are being encouraged to visit a Taste of Nairn which takes place between April 12-14.

The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival
First launched in 1999, the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival’s annual celebration of Scotland’s national drink has developed into one of the largest events of its kind anywhere in the world. With a programme of over 500 whisky-inspired events over 5 days, the Festival is a mecca for the curious beginner and the whisky connoisseur alike.
Festival events take place throughout Speyside, the biggest whisky producing region in Scotland, located in the Moray area in the North-East of the county between Aberdeen and Inverness.
Event venues are as varied as the experiences on offer – distilleries old and new, charming village halls, local whisky bars, historic castles, old steadings and the great outdoors – each guaranteeing an authentic experience. With activities taking place from Elgin in the North, Kingussie in the South to Keith in the East and Forres in the West, following the length of the River Spey to the sea (one of National Geographic’s ‘greatest coastlines’), the Festival brings this renowned whisky region to life as visitors from 54 countries are welcomed, greeted by locals as old friends.

The inaugural Logie Timber festival will the opening of Logie Timber, and if wood carving, carpentry or woodcraft are of interest then this promises to be a thrilling exhibition of all things ‘woody’.
Craigellachie Whisky Auction
2019 is the 7th year of this very popular charity auction which attracts buyers from across the globe. Last year’s auction featured over 100 lots of interesting and exclusive whisky and this year aims to exceed this, so if you’re interested in something really unusual then book a stay at Isla Bank House and we’ll get you to the auction.

The Whisky Shop Dufftown staff and festival crew will be on hand to help you try a selection of the whiskies from the events hosted by The Whisky Shop Dufftown that you may have missed or wish to retry, plus other samples and left-over’s from the past year – that bit is a lot better than it sounds. This will help you make a decision on any purchases you may want to make. There may also be a few surprises. This is a great way to finish the festival.

Hot on the heels of the Scottish Highlands being named one of the Lonely Planet’s ‘Best In Travel’ destinations 2019, eight famous Highland Distilleries are proud to introduce a brand-new Whisky Festival, celebrating the established Highland Whisky Trail. The Highland Whisky Festival, which will take place from the 10th to 17th May 2019, is a celebration of the region’s finest distilleries on the North Coast 500 route.
World Whisky Day
World Whisky Day invites everyone to try a dram and celebrate the water of life. Events are taking place all over the globe. If you can’t find an event happening near you why not host your own World Whisky Day event? All you need is a bottle of whisky/whiskey to share with your friends.
Gordon’s Highland Games
Scotland’s only Highland Games and Country Fair is back and the date for 2019 is Sunday 19th May. Entering its ninth year, the annual family event looks forward to welcoming over 10,000 national and international visitors to the north east of Scotland. Plus, they may even have a few tricks up their sleeves for 2019… stay tuned and all will be revealed!

The Traditional Boat Festival, Portsoy
Packed with brilliant moments, the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival engages the local region, bringing together boats, music, crafts, food and drink to celebrate the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Cheer on the crews as the take part in competitive sailing on the opens seas, enthralling the crowds gathered by the harbourside who watch on in excited anticipation.
Breathe in the aromas of fresh cooked fish, meats and other fine foods, which may prove too much to resists as you wander through the Festival drinking in the atmosphere and the many activities and melodies around you.
The Spirit of Speyside Gin Experience
Adding to the boom in Gin festivals around Scotland, a brand new and exciting gin event is being launched this summer in the heart of Scotland’s best-known whisky-producing region.
Spirit of Speyside: The Gin Experience is the latest venture from the team behind the Spirit of Speyside brand, which already stages the Whisky Festival and Distilled.
From the 12th to 14th July a celebration of the growing popularity of gin will become the focus of Speyside and events will take place across the region, hosted by local venues and distilleries.
The Dufftown Highland Games
A taste of something Scottish for everybody. A full programme of Light and Heavy Events, Massed Pipe Bands, Highland Dancing, Hill Races, fun for the entire family and much more. Visitors can take part in the Overseas Race – an opportunity to participate in a Northern Highland Games.
Aberlour Strathspey Highland Games
The venue is the scenic Alice Littler Park by the river Spey in Aberlour, where the former railway platform and the surrounding park slopes form a natural amphitheatre to view the events from.

Grouse Shooting Season
The best of the grouse season is in August and the first half of September, but in good weather the Autumn can produce excellent sport. Shooting over pointers is fascinating and highly recommended and we can arrange moorland ranges, guides, beaters and very experienced dog teams.
Shooting parties are always welcome at Isla Bank House where we have installed secure gun lockers for overnight storage of guests’ firearms and amunition.

Whisky Colours Festival
The festival will allow you to get up close and personal with some of the biggest names in the whisky industry. The festival organisers have partnered with Cardhu, Glen Moray and Glenfarclas distilleries for dining and tasting experiences and Morrison & MacKay for a unique autumnal tasting, as well as masterclasses from the likes of Adelphi and Berry Bros & Rudd.
The festival has been inspired by the vast range of whisky colours that are mirrored in the beauty of the phenomenal autumn scenery of Dufftown and the surrounding area as our woodlands display their stunning colours and the bright golden barley in the fields. Their aim is to bring you extra special whisky experiences with an autumnal theme that will be truly something to remember.
